love: when i can't pick a favorite

seriously, i can't. i love when everyday things are recreated into something beautiful. i can't explain it, you need to look for yourself. here is just one random (beautiful) piece from johnathan lewis. go. now.

love: minimalism

i love minimalism in art, in music, in architecture, in fashion, even in food. the simplicity and abstract balance are so pleasing to me. that is one of the reasons i adore the sh*t out of the paintings of artist jake longstreth. the added bonus of of his work is that it is also a snapshot of a certain time and place... the kind of thing that you can look back on and know around what year it was painted and it's a silent commentary on our culture; the more dated it becomes the more endearing it is. i'm in love... and have been for a long time. his work inspires me. i encourage you to check out his website. love.
as in my last post i am putting a video below as a sort of "soundtrack" for the painting (which i based on the words less than the music). i chose this version because i felt like it was visually more fitting than the original. enjoy.

love: explosive inspiration

i f-ing love this painting by james roper. it's titled "away from here" (although in my head it says superhero's laundry). it has so much energy in it, as most of his work does... and it feels familiar and original at the same time. i fell in love with it the first time i laid eyes on it almost a year ago. (i found it on the explosively inspirational website ffffound!.)
seriously, love.

i think if that painting had it's own theme song... this would be it (FYI the music begins about 30 seconds into the video):

love: chalkboard paint

it's just a brilliant design idea. the color is great. the fact that it can be ever changing is great. the fact that even though i've seen this image a dozen places online and i can't remember a single one... not great. sorry. but enjoy the photo anyway.

hate: cv's for artists

i think art is the one occupation that a CV or resume is complete bullshit. you're either talented or you're not. your work should speak for itself. i'm not saying that art school isn't relevant... it's just not necessary... therefore the CV isn't either. it's only the portfolio that matters. it's not like a surgeon or an aeronautical engineer where their qualifications actually matter. just look at the art and decide if it's any good based on what it looks like, not if they have a BFA in critical and visual studies with a minor in mixed media installations. seriously... it's just art! you love it because you just do. i think it's a scam that art "appreciators" have come up with in order to justify appreciating crap... to create an industry of exclusion and give monetary value to imaginary gems. i just don't see it. to prove my point here are two images... from two different artists. is one more qualified to succeed because their work was a result of attending a prestigious art school and the other's a result of 3rd grade? is it even obvious which is which?
on a side note... i'm not trying to offend either artist, i'm only using their "resumes" to make a point. i happen to like both pieces... just not based on the artists' education.
